Atresmedia has a low environmental impact since its activity doesn’t cause great harm to the environment as might occur in other economic sectors. However, considering that all activities have some kind of environmental impact, Atresmedia assumes its commitment and responsibility to the protection of the planet.

Aligned with this commitment and to fight the main cause of the increase of the greenhouse effect, Atresmedia has implemented a C02 emission reduction strategy to reach zero net carbon emissions in 2050. To this end, specific reduction targets have been set to help ensure that the planet’s temperature does not increase by more than 1.5ºC by 2050, aligning this strategy with the Paris Summit and avoiding a climatic scenario of no return.

C02 emissions are categorized into 3 different types:

  • Scope 1 emissions: direct emissions generated by a company’s activity
  • Scope 2 emissions: indirect emissions from energy purchase
  • Scope 3 emissions: other indirect emissions related to the value chain, different from the scope 2 emissions like, for example, emissions from employees traveling to work.

Atresmedia has publicly committed, through the Science Base Target Initiative, to reduce 90% of its scopes 1+2 emissions, and 90% of its scope 3 emissions, considering 2019 as the base year. To achieve this the company is designing actions to minimize its C02 emissions and compensates those than can not be reduced for being necessary to carry out the business.

An example of this action is that, since 2019 Atresmedias is committed to purchasing 100% energy renewable for its facilities. This initiative had a great impact on the reduction of its scope 2 emissions.

This strategy means a long-term commitment to fighting climate change. Atresmedia is, currently, the only Spanish media that appears on the SBTi public list of committed companies with a Net Zero target.
