Last Saturday, April 20, Atresmedia Volunteers, company employees and their families had the opportunity to visit the El Molino Municipal Occupational Center, managed by Fundación Aldaba.
The center's goal is to facilitate the employment of people with intellectual disabilities, either as a transition to regular employment or as a form of supported employment for those who need it.
In this volunteer activity, individuals with intellectual disabilities from Fundación Aldaba took on a leading role in teaching how the center operates and what daily tasks they perform. Believing that the best way to learn something is by doing it yourself, Atresmedia Volunteers got hands-on experience in the garden, workshops, and animal care, always guided by their mentors.
During the morning, they learned how to organize the garden based on what is to be cultivated—this time, tomatoes—and the process of selling their products to local people. They also had the chance to tour the farm and meet all the animals: over 200 chickens, 3 pigs, 12 rabbits, 6 sheep, 5 donkeys, and several pheasants, among others.
There was also time to participate in two of the workshops held at the occupational center: manual bookbinding and cookie preparation. Alongside the foundation's users, Atresmedia Volunteers kneaded and baked cookies and created their own personalized notebooks.
It was a very fulfilling day that primarily promoted an inclusive attitude, allowing volunteers to share time and experiences with the users and better understand the importance of facilitating the employment integration of people with disabilities.
