The six NGO members of the Spanish Emergency Committee - Aldeas Infantiles SOS, Educo, Médicos del Mundo, Oxfam Intermón, Plan International and World Vision - intensify their work in the affected areas of Turkey and Syria. After an initial evaluation and analysis of the situation and once the safety and integrity of their teams is guaranteed, the main objective of these organizations is to care for the population in the most vulnerable situation, such as the sick, children and women.

The earthquake has so far left more than 39,000 dead and hundred thousands injured, in areas with very demanding humanitarian needs. Syria is a particularly vulnerable and destroyed country after twelve years of war. Before the earthquake, 70% of the Syrian population already required humanitarian aid, had high levels of food insecurity and marked energy poverty. This makes the supply of water and electricity very complex and scarce in some areas.

Faced with this situation, the NGOs that make up the Emergency Committee are focused on distributing blankets, fuel, stoves, hygiene kits, food, drinking water, warm clothing and medicines, in work that is expected to last for months and even years.

Through the Emergency Committee, these NGOs want to jointly channel the donations of all those people willing to help the population affected by the natural disaster that occurred in Turkey and Syria. In this way, NGOs will be able to raise funds more quickly and effectively and save more lives. Thanks to the dissemination work that Atresmedia is doing, the Emergency Committee has already raised more than 1,100.000 euros to respond to this humanitarian crisis.

The Committee was created in 2015 to offer a rapid response mechanism in emergency situations that allows increasing citizen support in different humanitarian crises, acting as a permanent link between NGOs, companies, the media and citizens, increasing social trust in NGOs in emergency situations, rendering accounts of the impact of the action and acting jointly as a benchmark for emergency aid before society.

Now, more than ever, the help provided by the Spanish Emergency Committee and its member NGOs is essential to ensure and protect the people affected by the consequences of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
