As part of its Residuo Cero programme and Sustainability Strategy, Atresmedia partnered with Oreka in 2022 to recover surplus food from its canteen and deliver it to social organizations. From the launch of the project until June this year, the Group has donated more than 26,000 meals (26,807 in total) to the Cottolengo del Padre Alegre, recovering around 6,000 kg of food.
The meals suitable for consumption are carefully prepared and preserved by Sodexo, Atresmedia’s catering provider, and then transported by Oreka to ensure they reach the Cottolengo in perfect condition.
The Cottolengo del Padre Alegre is a non-profit organization that provides housing and care for people at risk of social exclusion. Thanks to Atresmedia’s support, over these two years the organization has received an average of 188 meals per week for its residents.
In the new season, Atresmedia will continue to donate surplus food from its catering service to social entities supporting vulnerable communities.
In addition to its local social impact in San Sebastián de los Reyes, the initiative also has a significant environmental impact. According to Oreka’s estimates, the 6,000 kg of recovered food have helped avoid the emission of 42 tons of CO₂ and save around 18 million liters of water.
With this initiative, the Group continues to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) — while also generating positive impact on SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
