The initiative is supported by major companies in the media sector, such as ITV, Sky, Informa and Virginia Media–O2, among others, which have signed up to its two core commitments to actively contribute to tackling climate change:
- Commitment I. To have decarbonisation targets aligned with and validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
- Commitment II. To promote environmentally responsible lifestyles through content and encourage sustainable behaviours among audiences.
By joining the Climate Media Pact, Atresmedia strengthens its public commitment to these goals, on which it has already been working for years, joining forces with other international players in the sector.
Atresmedia has had SBTi-validated decarbonisation targets in place since 2023, covering all three scopes.
Specifically, the group has committed to:
- Reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 86.1% and Scope 3 emissions by 28% by 2030, compared to its base year (2019).
- Reducing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050, compared to its base year (2019).
In 2025, the Group achieved its greatest progress to date toward these targets, reaching an 80.9% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 26% reduction in Scope 3 emissions, placing it very close to meeting its 2030 goals.
Additionally, Atresmedia leverages the power of its media platforms to raise awareness about the importance of combating climate change and mitigating its effects, through cross-cutting content in news programmes on laSexta and Antena 3, as well as special programmes and dedicated initiatives such as “Luz Verde” on Onda Cero, which has made climate action a transversal theme across its programming.
